The Cleveland Metroparks Water Taxi

I cannot tell you how excited I was to learn that the Cleveland Metroparks were bringing back the water taxi connecting the East and West Backs of the Flats.  So, of course, when the Metroparks were offering free rides last weekend, we had to go try it out! The water taxi will officially open Memorial Day weekend and for just $2 you can purchase an all day pass. The water taxi can carry up to 18 passengers and 4 bicycles across the Cuyahoga River.

Water Taxi Boarding Station on the East Bank of the Flats

On the East Bank, the water taxi station is easily identifiable next to Coastal Taco. Unfortunately since the building was shaded under the bridge during our visit, my photo does not do it justice. However, the architectural style of the building blends perfectly with the new dining options on the East Bank.

Water Taxi Boarding on the West Bank

The West Bank boarding area is located next to Music Box Super Club. Although this boarding area on the West Bank does not have a building associated with it, it is still easily identifiable and centrally located between the Nautica Entertainment Complex and the classic west side restaurants.

I was surprised by the large number of families we saw walking in the Flats on a Sunday afternoon. Hopefully, the addition of the water taxi will bring more families to the area as they spead the afternoon walking or biking the trail or exploring the Greater Cleveland Aquarium or an adventure on the Nautical Queen then ride the water taxi to the East Bank for dinner. There are so many possibilities for adventure.

On Tuesdays at 4pm and 7pm you can enjoy a two-hour Nature Boat Ride on the eCLee2. For $15 per person, you can float down the Cuyahoga River and learn about the plants and animals that inhabit the Cuyahoga Riverbed. The boat will board for these adventures at Merwin’s Wharf which is the perfect place to grab a pre- or post-cruise bite. You must register online on the Cleveland Metroparks website. The Nature Boat Cruises can be found in the Events & Programs Calendar. The Nature Boat Ride is definitely now on my family’s summer bucket list.

The eCLee2 is also available for private events.

Water Taxi Hours:

Thursday 4pm – 7pm

Friday 4pm – 9pm

Saturday 11am – 9pm

Sunday 11am – 7pm

Hope to see you on the water soon!
