One of my family’s favorite summer activities is to enjoy lunch outdoors with some of Cleveland’s fabulous food trucks. Legacy Village offers the perfect family friendly setting for this lunch-time adventure. Every other Monday from 11:30 to 1:30 during the summer, Legacy Village opens its main street to pedestrian traffic only as some of Cleveland’s favorite food trucks line the street providing something to satisfy every food craving.
On Monday, May 23rd, Legacy Village hosted its first Food Truck Monday of the season. The weather was perfect, so my 5-year-old and I headed out for a special mommy-daughter lunch. First we walked down each side of the street and checked out the menu of each truck and discussed what we might want to try. I loved how she carefully considered each option and finally made her decision: nachos from Wholly Frijoles Mexican Street Foods.
With so many decision options, it was very difficult for me to choose. Finally, I narrowed it down to two options: a pulled pork sandwich from The Proper Pig and corned beef from Slyman’s. It was an extremely tough decision. Part of me feels like I will not be a true Clevelander until I have tried the classic corned beef sandwich from Slyman’s, however my roots as a country girl won out and I ordered the pulled pork from The Proper Pig. It was outstanding! Luckily, Slyman’s Food Truck will be returning to Legacy Village on June 20, July 25, and August 22 so I will have an opportunity to make my transformation into a true Clevelander on one of these dates.
We also picked up an order of cinnamon mini donuts from the Donut Lab. My daughter loved peaking in the window of the truck and watching the donuts being made. I cannot begin to tell you how delectable these little fried bites of dough taste. You will have to try them for yourself when Donut Lab returns to Legacy Village Food Truck Mondays on July 11 or August 22.
After gathering our feast, we headed to the lawn and enjoyed some local music with our food. I think the best way to dine at Legacy Village’s Food Truck Mondays with kids is to bring a large blanket and spread it out on the lawn in front of the stage. This way kids can dance and enjoy the music and you can keep an eye on them. Seating around the local musicians is always at a premium, so by bringing a blanket you are also ensuring a your family a great seat.
The next Food Truck Monday is June 6th and features this incredible line-up: Orange Truck, 216 Bistro, The Mana Truck, Barrio, Fork-Fuel Food Truck, Streat Mobile Bistro, The Spread, and River Dog Cafe.
