Earth Day Events in Northeast Ohio

Spring has finally arrived in Northeast Ohio, and it’s time to get outside and take care of our beautiful planet. Earth Day is Friday, April 22nd and there are numerous activities taking place across Northeast Ohio to celebrate. Check out our list of local family friendly Earth Day events and learn how you can make a difference for our planet.

Please note that many of these activities reguire pre-registration and/or tickets. Please be sure to visit the host’s website or give them a call for complete details.

Family Movie Night at Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation

April 15th, 7pm

In celebration of Earth Day, watch the story of The Lorax. Follow Ted on his search for real trees. Snacks available for purchase or bring your own. Pre-registration is required for this FREE event.


Nature Play! Earth Day at Amherst Beaver Creek, ABC Visitor Center

April 15th, 10am to 11am

Kids will learn about Earth Day through indoor and outdoor play, crafts, and other activities. An easy hike is included in this FREE event.


EarthFest 2016 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds

April 17th, 10am to 5pm

Join Earth Day Coalition for EarthFest and celebrate the Year of Clean Transportation at Ohio’s largest environmental education event and the longest running Earth Day celebration in the nation. EarthFest will feature over 270 exhibitors in 8 exhibit areas.


Preschool Beach Bunch: Earth Day at Lakeview Park

April 20th, 10am to 11am

Celebrate Earth Day with a story, craft, and activity. Pre-registration is requested.


Celebrate Earth Day at Wildwood Cultural Center in Mentor

April 22nd, 2pm to 6pm

Celebrate Earth Day with a variety of family friendly activities, games, and exhibitors that will help you be more green. Make and take home a upcycled project, get advice from local experts on a variety of green topics, and learn about local plants and animals. Free door prizes and tree seedlings while supplies last. Free admission.


Earth Day History Hike at West Creek Reservation

April 22nd, 10:30am to 12:30pm

Explore human impacts on the earth, and what efforts we have taken – and still need to take – to help protect it during a pleasant, 3-mile hike.


Earth Day Hike at Miller Nature Reserve

April 22nd, 11am to 12 pm

Celebrate Earth Day by counting the critters seen and heard on this easy hike. FREE event.


Earth Day Recycled Crafts at Carlisle Reservation

April 22nd, 2pm to 3pm

Celebrate Earth Day and create a craft using recycled materials. FREE event.


Medina County’s 20th Annual Earth Day Celebration at Buffalo Creek Retreat

April 23rd, 10am to 4pm

Celebration Earth Day with earth-friendly exhibits, a fishing derby, kids’ activities, food, and much more. Free admission. No registration required.


Party for the Planet at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

April 23rd, 10am to 5pm

Families can visit their favorite zoo animals and exhibits, see a special preview of the summer live animal show with Professor Wylde, and enjoy educational activities  and crafts focusing on animal conservation efforts. Activities are free with zoo admission.


Party for the Planet at the Akron Zoo

April 23rd, 10am to 4pm

Party for the Planet will showcase the zoo’s sustainable and green efforts through different activities, music and more! Enjoy face painting, Tom Todd One Man Band, and mini-seminars. Earth day activities are included with paid zoo admission.


Earth Day Extravaganza at Frohring Meadows

April 23rd, 11am to 3pm

Celebrate at this interactive event and learn about current wildlife and conservation issues. Experience an exciting live birds of prey show, amphibian and reptile show-and-tell, bird and insect walks, up-close bird banding and bird box car, tree and wildflower planting, astronomy club and telescope,; informational displays, refreshments, and tree & wildflower giveaways.


The City of Painesville’s Earth Day Celebration & Re-purposed Craft Fair  at Memorial Park

April 23rd, 1pm to 4pm

Celebrate being green in 2016 with lots of fun activities including live music, a sapling giveaway, animal show, “green” games, kids’ craft project, corn hole, disc golf, and a variety of vendors and booths.


Earth Day Gardening at Schoepfle Garden

April 23rd, 10am to 11 am

From composting to rain barrels to organic methods, learn about how you can make your garden and landscape earth friendly. FREE Event.


Every Day is Earth Day at Columbia Reservation

April 23rd, 1pm to 3 pm

Come out and take a hike through the park and discuss ways to help preserve the earth for all living things! Then learn about some invasive plant species like garlic mustard and pull them out!


Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration at the Cleveland Botanical Garden

April 23 & 24,  2 to 4pm

Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day by making recycled crafts in the Hershey Children’s Garden from 2-4 pm each day. Free with garden admission. No registration required.


Celebrate Earth Day with Lake Metroparks at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center

April 24th, 12 – 4 pm

Discover how water is a valuable resource that sustains all life through hands-on activities, games, crafts and demonstrations. Complete a water-cycle quest, shop for earth-friendly products, enjoy live animal talks, meet farm animals from FarmPark, and much more. Free admission.


Arbor Day 2016 at Holden Arboretum

April 29th through May 1, most family activities are 1pm to 4 pm on Sat. & Sun.

Join the nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care.  Family fun and activities including crafts, the Great Lakes Timber Show, portable sawmill demonstrations, presentations by Johnny Appleseed and John Muir, and more. Opportunities to talk with certified tree service professionals.  Free tree seedling give-away while supplies last.
