This past weekend the kids and I attended what is perhaps our favorite festival of the year, the Cleveland Asian Festival. There is no better way to kick off the summer festival season, than with this free festival which has events for the entire family. The Cleveland Asian Festival is an annual celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May, and takes place the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend in Cleveland’s AsiaTown neighborhood.
The festival boasts two free entertainment stages featuring a large variety of entertainment including the Kwan Family Lion Dance, traditional dance and cultural performances, fashion shows and more. We enjoyed an Indian classical dance performance and the dragon dance team during our visit and found both to be excellent.
We also enjoyed the many Pan Asian exhibits in the world market place. We did a little shopping in the market place and in Asia Plaza and ended up bringing home a beautiful fan and some Baoding balls.
There were lots of children’s activities within the marketplace and in the activities pavilion. My kids tried fish printing, milk painting, and …
The highlight of the Cleveland Asian Festival is the food! My adventurous eaters love touring all the food vendors and deciding what Asian cuisine they want to experience. We spent well over an hour touring and eating delicious Asian street food.
Additionally, there is a health pavilion with free health screenings and a trolley tour of AsiaTown which we did not get to during our three-hour visit.
With all these incredible family activities, it is easy to understand why the Cleveland Asian Festival is the fastest growing festival in Ohio. Be sure to mark your calendars for next May and join the fun!
